This chapter provides a brief introduction to the treatment of polluted water and
the adsorbents used for water treatment. This chapter also gives an introduction to
biopolymers such as cellulose, chitin, chitosan, and starch; their isolation, and detailed
review of the literature. The scope and objectives of the present study are also presented.
