John Dougherty

John Dougherty was born in Larne, Northern Ireland, and not many years later they made him go to school - an experience he didn't find entirely enjoyable. Fortunately, the joys of reading helped him through the difficult times. It's therefore not completely surprising that when he grew up he became first a teacher (the nice sort), and then a writer of stories and poetry for children. He also writes songs, some of which he performs with First Draft, a band made up of three children's authors and a bookseller.

He now lives in England with his two children.Thomas Docherty is an author and illustrator of childrens books based in Swansea. His first picture book, The Little Boat was shortlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal, and he has also worked on several books with his wife Helen Docherty, including The Snatchabook, The Knight Who Wouldn't Fight and Pirate Nell's Tale To Tell. His books have been sold around the world and have eben translated into more than 25 languages.

Jim Eldridge

Jim Eldridge has had over one hundred books published, which have sold over three million copies. He is also a radio, TV and movie scriptwriter who has had 250 TV scripts broadcast in the UK and internationally. He lives in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Becky Dickinson

Becky Dickinson is a freelance journalist and author who writes for national newspapers and magazines. She has written a number of children's educational books and is the author of How to Grow and Eat Your own Super Foods. She is passionate about the benefits of gardening for mental and physical well-being and about encouraging people of all ages to grow some of their own food.

Alex Paterson

Alex was a soldier and a jungle leader before concentrating on his illustration career: following in the footsteps of his sister and cousin who are also both children's illustrators. He has had eleven books published so far. Alex lives in a little village in Warwickshire with his wife Sarah.

Liz Kay

Liz Kay works from her home in Yorkshire. She loves her job and when she's not busy doodling she enjoys outdoor adventures of her own. She is often found hiking and biking around the Yorkshire countryside and playing tennis for her local club.

Christiane Engel

Christiane Engel is an award-winning children's book writer and illustrator whose work includes ABC Yoga and ABC Mindful Me (Quarto).

She loves creating quirky characters, map illustrations and using her own hand-lettering in her projects across publishing and advertising. Christiane lives in South East England with her family.
