She turns to face the future in a world that's falling apart

In sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior's world, society is divided into five factions - Abnegation (the selfless), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent) - each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue, in the attempt to form a "perfect society." At the age of sixteen, teens must choose the faction to which they will devote their lives.

On her Choosing Day, Beatrice renames herself Tris, rejects her family′s Abnegation faction, and chooses Dauntless, the faction of daredevils and adrenaline junkies whose lives are devoted to courageousness and chasing out weakness. After surviving a brutal initiation, Tris finds romance with a super-hot, super-fearless Dauntless boy named Tobias, but also discovers unrest and growing conflict in their seemingly "perfect society." To survive and save those they love, Tris and Tobias must use their strengths to uncover the truths about their identities, their families, and the order of their society itself.

Veronica Roth

Veronica Roth graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in creative writing. While she was a student, she often chose to work on the story that would become Divergent instead of doing her homework.

It was indeed a transforming choice. Now a full-time writer, Ms Roth lives near Chicago. The third and final book in The Divergent Trilogy, ALLEGIANT, will come out on October 22, 2013.

In the meantime she will spend endless hours browsing Wikipedia in her pajamas as she eats corn flakes.

The author spent a lot of time setting up the story - which meant that at times it seemed to get a bit bogged down - but apart from that the concept is great and the story improved as it went on.

Terrified of war created by people being unpredictable, Tris' world has divided into 5 different factions where certain personality traits are desired and those who do not conform or fail the faction tests do not belong. Imagine if you could only choose one place to belong - would you be fearless (Dauntless), selfless (Abnegation), smart (Erudite), happy (Amity) or Candor (truthful)? Choose now...

This book is my ALL TIME favourite dystopian trilogy. I first picked it up 2 years ago and completely fell in love with the world and its' characters. This book made me question so many things about society and how we are viewed as well 'controlled' by others. It also made me think about how our different qualities and life stories may not fully define who we are as a person, and that our family and friends do not dictate what i do or who i am. This book is amazing and i would highly recommend it to anyone interested in any sub genre of YA. Filled with bad ass characters, hot guys (or guy...), amazing friendships, family bonds and the fight for individualism and non-conformity as well as corrupted government systems, this book really has it all. Have fun bookworms :)
