Romeo and Juliet with zombies - a starry-eyed, sweetly comic story about the humanising power of love, even in the darkest of circumstances. Now a major film starring Nicholas Hoult.

READ THE SEQUEL, THE BURNING WORLD, PUBLISHED FEB 2017!

'The zombie novel with a heart', Guardian

Now a major motion picture starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer and John Malkovich, Warm Bodies is the ultimate zombie read this Halloween.

'R' is a zombie. He has no name, no memories, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow Dead.

Amongst the ruins of an abandoned city, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie and she is the opposite of everything he knows - warm and bright and very much alive, she is a blast of colour in a dreary grey landscape. For reasons he can't understand, R chooses to save Julie instead of eating her, and a tense yet strangely tender relationship begins.

This has never happened before. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won't be changed without a fight...

I can’t handle anything to do with zombies. They creep me out beyond anything else in the entire world. So how is this one of my favourite books of all time?

I’ve heard this is one of the best book-to-film adaptions ever done, so if you’ve seen it you’ll know the storyline. If not: R is a zombie. Julie is a human. When R saves Julie during a hunt instead of eating her, he sparks a chain reaction among the Dead that may just mean the world isn’t doomed after all.

The story was so delicately written for what I was expecting. I simply didn’t believe I could feel for this zombie, and it turns out… he’s the biggest sweetheart ever. Isaac Marion just made the plot work so well, I’m so glad he wrote it the way he did. There were times I was worried he’d deviate from the path of Awesome and do some terrible cliché spooky story, but it was so original and so cool and I’m just so mind blown.
I’m waaay too excited for the sequel, hopefully due later this year. What a cliff-hanger! If I can read this, so can you. I laughed, I teared up, I got absolutely furious, I felt everything reading this. Would recommend.
