The far future, deep space: the remnants of the human race are in trouble. They have decided that Dr Piers Morton is their last hope for rescue from a nasty, messy death. There is a problem though. Not only is Dr Morton not the man the crew of the Willflower think he is, but he isn't even the man they have mistaken for Morton. That's OK though, because his real identity is that of a total loser who was until recently trying to avoid being chucked out of a high window by a psychopath with terrible socks. So Eddie O'Hare was distinctly relieved to swap places with an important man on an amazing mission to colonize a far-off planet. Definitely an improvement on defenestration. Though perhaps not much of an improvement, given that Eddie has just woken up to find that he is now just a head in a jar attached to a malfunctioning robotic body, has misplaced several centuries, and is stuck on a huge, badly-damaged spaceship staffed by a collection of inbred madmen and idiot clones. Who are looking to him to save them and humanity itself . . .
