Propelled through a magic gate into the Rynth, Irissa, the last of the Torloc sorceresses, is captured by the wizard Sofistron, and her lover, Kendric, joins a band of outlaws. This is the sequel to Six of Swords (1982) and is followed by Keepers of Edanvant (Tor, 1987), in which Irissa and Kendric return to Edanvant as a war is beginning between males and females. The latter book also begins a second trilogy about Irissa and Kendric, called Sword & Circlet. The other books in this newer trilogy are: Heir of Rengarth (1988) and Seven of Swords (1989).
