This study of the work of the feminist science-fiction writer, Joanna Russ, provides an introduction to the major feminist issues relevant to her work and assesses its development. Although the book deals principally with Russ's novels, it also examines her short stories, as well as focusing on critically neglected texts. Her work is placed in the context both of other feminist speculative fiction writers and of "traditional" science fiction, and there is an exploration of the specifically American myths that Russ's fiction uses.
