The Novice is the first book in The Summoner trilogy about Fletcher, his demon Ignatius, and the war against the Orcs.

It was an entertaining, well-written paranormal fantasy adventure filled with magic summoners, elves, dwarves, demons and orcs.

What I liked about it:

Great world building. I loved the fascinating, supernatural world that the author created. The history, cultures and landscapes were rich, strongly developed and believable.

I loved the different characters and their demons. They were well-rounded and likeable. I especially related to Fletcher, who was often in over his head and relied on his wits and bravado to get him out of sticky situations.

The story touched on issues of prejudice and bullying which was evident between the nobles and commoners as well as between humans and dwarves/elves.

I love the cover!

What I didn’t like:

There was nothing new. It is very similar to other books that I have read: Lord of the Rings, Pokemon and Harry Potter.

The Novice is a promising start to a new series. I would recommend this book for younger audiences and lovers of fantasy.
