From the far reaches of the universe, a mysterious blue light approaches our solar system. It reaches Earth, and those struck by the light instantly begin to evolve beyond the present state of humanity. They become the full realization of their natures, with strengths, understanding, and communication abilities far beyond our imagination. A narrator named Chance describes the wanderings of this new tribe, leading up to their final, apocalyptic battle. Brimming with his own uncertainties, Chance wonders if he is documenting the end of the human race.
