A relational database is a management system that is based on the relational model. Relational databases are databases in which data is stored in the form of tables and the relationship among the data is also stored in the form of tables. A relational database aims to achieve normalisation of data. Open source software gained hold with the rise of a public, world-wide, computer-network system called the Internet, and the attendant need for massive retooling of the computing source code.
