**********

Continuing his series on the Sturmgeschütze of the Waffen-SS, in this 3rd volume, Pierre Tiquet studies three large units involved in often secondary theaters of operations: two mountain divisions - the 6th and 7th -, then one of cavalry - the 8th. Often less mentioned, they are nevertheless fascinating and have been confronted with stubborn fights.

The "North" being essentially engaged on the Lapland front, very inhospitable, its StuG. have a limited existence there, not very appropriate to the terrain of the Far North. Also Gebirgs-Division, the "Prinz Eugen" served mainly in the Yugoslav mountains against Tito's partisans, although in Serbia, its StuG battery. 40 will shine brilliantly against the Red Army, led by the Ostuf. Harry Paletta. Finally, the assault guns of the "Florian Geyer" are also mentioned, also largely engaged in counter-guerrilla warfare, before being engaged against the Soviets in Ukraine, in Transylvania and during the terrible encirclement battle of Budapest.

It is also an opportunity for the author to highlight the more general commitment of each of these divisions, with largely unpublished photographs, even unique reports, also evoking their Panzerjäger and battle tank formations. Pleasant to read, the book is enriched with color maps and profiles, but also precise and documented biographies of several emblematic figures of these three major units - Matthias Kleinheisterkamp, Otto Kumm and Hermann Fegelein.
