On the back of the enormous success of That Sugar Film and That Sugar Book, Damon Gameau brings us That Sugar Guide, the book for the legion of fans who asked for a) more recipes and b) more ideas for weaning themselves and their families off the white stuff.

Working with his wife, Australian actor Zoe Tuckwell-Smith, Damon gives us 80 brand new recipes and the kind of advice that is easy for every family to integrate into their daily lives. The book is divided into two parts: a Bridging phase and a Consolidation phase, designed for quitting and then adjusting. The recipes are stupendously simple but seriously delicious, and every ingredient can be bought off the shelf of your local supermarket.

Damon Gameau is an award-winning actor who has appeared in a range of productions, including The Tracker, Balibo, Thunderstruck, Save Your Legs, Love My Way, Howzat, Puberty Blues, Spirited, Secrets and Lies, RAW (in the UK), How I Met Your Mother (USA) and recently, Gallipoli and The Kettering Incident. How Sweet Life Is Without Sugar!

I just received the latest edition "That Sugar Guide" recently (which I pre-ordered in anticipation) and I have to say it's just as I expected, Awesome and Informative!

I love the surprise (sorry to ruin it for others!) of the detachable "Our" Food Pyramid in the front cover, which I've put on my fridge and my kids look at it and tell me what we need to eat sometimes and all the time.

The recipes are easy to follow and the information throughout the book is awesome. I find my older 2 kids sitting and reading the information and relaying it back to me later.

We were a "sugar dependent" family and I thought it would be a fight to get my kids to embrace the concept, but even before we actually started, we had watched "That Sugar Film" and purchased the first book, and just the information they had learnt already had them conscious about what they were putting in their mouth.

They were screwing their faces at cereal when they realised some of them had 8 or more teaspoons of sugar with milk and how "tricky" some of the information was, realising that where cereals had lower sugar content, the serving size in most instances was equivalent to 1 cup, but higher sugar cereals, the serving sizes were 1/2 a cup or 2/3 of a cup to try to (in their words) "trick" you when comparing to other cereals. They started just wanting to have some eggs and salad.
They're always telling family & friends information like
"Do you know that can of soft drink has 10 spoons of sugar in it? That's more than you should have in one whole day!"

They walk around everywhere with their pocket calculators and love to figure out the amount of sugar in everything! It's a fun competition between all 3 of them as to who can find the thing with the most sugar from products we once thought were "Healthy".
They especially like to point it out to everyone we know how much sugar is in everything, and will even go through their cupboards to point it out to them.

As a single working parent, previously, each day my kids would be having high sugar cereals or toast with sugar loaded spreads, like jam or honey for breakfast, wondering why they were hungry again before we even left for school! Lunch was a sandwich with white bread, fruit, then muesli bars and other "healthy" sugary snacks. For dinner it used to be rush, rush, rush after work, throw something together that was loaded with sugar, or buy sugar loaded takeaway.

Now each week my kids pick out some recipes they'd like to cook, and each night we cook together, even if it's just stirring, or helping to tip things in, they still like to help.
In the mornings, my oldest children (who are 11 & 13), love to cook a sugar-free breakfast together for all of us, while my youngest child helps me prepare everyones school lunches.

I think because they helped in the kitchen that they have a sense of pride in the food created and are less fussy when it came to eating it and at times were actually surprised how good it tasted, saying things like "oh!, this actually tastes really good!"

It's actually given that bonding time back that we lacked for many years and they're so excited to help.

I'm so glad we've embraced the sugar-free lifestyle.
This is not a diet, it is a way of living.....the only way of living!

Thank you Damon & Zoe!!!
In so many ways, you have opened our eyes and saved our lives and future generations to come!
