The first Discworld novel, revamped for a new generation of readers...

'His spectacular inventiveness makes the Discworld series one of the perennial joys of modern fiction' Mail on Sunday

NAMED AS ONE OF THE BBC'S 100 MOST INSPIRING NOVELS

The Discworld is very much like our own - if our own were to consist of a flat planet balanced on the back of four elephants which stand on the back of a giant turtle, that is . . .
____________________

In the beginning there was...a turtle.

Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place which might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different.

Particularly as it's carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules.

But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc's very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight- the world's first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Unfortunately, the person charged with maintaining that survival in the face of robbers, mercenaries and, well, Death, is a spectacularly inept wizard...

I remembered these books from way back and thought the irreverent humour and crazy setting might appeal to my 10 year old boy. I was wrong. Just for your information.

I'm a big Terry Pratchett fan and had all his discworld novels. Unfortunately I loaned the first 2 to someone and they were subsequently lost. These books are as rare as hen's teeth in 2nd hand book stores and quite expensive in regular bookstores (if you can find them) so I was absolutely delighted to find them in Bookworld at a price I could afford. I now have the first story again and am waiting for the 2nd one. I have only one question: if the book is coming from Melbourne (I live outside of Sydney), why does it take such a long time to arrive? I mean, I can understand a week from dispatch, but 2-3 weeks from dispatch to delivery seems an awful long time for something within Australia.
