Tanya Huff's sparkling Trilogy featuring a family of Keepers tasked with keeping the world safe from Demon spawn from Hell (It Talks to Itself in Capitals) a particularly Lippy , geriatric Cat, a handsome young hunk from Newfoundland and a Gone Bad Keeper being guarded since World War II by a grumpy Cousin who has Had It in Book I begin this hilarious trilogy where nothing is quite what it seems as the Keeper attempts to close the hole into the world before All Hell breaks lose, fights her attraction to the frightfully upright but incredibly sexy younger male, deals with her younger sister who nearly causes a total disaster, stops her cat from killing himself by overeating etc.
Books II & III continue the story what with accidentally creating an Angel and a Demon then Hell sneakily entering via a Shopping Mall one long Hot Summer! Ms Huff has a wicked sense of humour, a through knowledge of the conventions of Fantasy and science fiction and has written other series in various arenas of these genres, but setting such wickedly funny riffs on these conventions in staid old Toronto and other places in Canada is bordering on genius. I've read these novels separately but I loved finding them in one omnibus edition. If you like your fantasy with a touch of irreverence I highly recommend this collection. Austin is one rare cat.
