A grisly murder
In the heart of the English countryside a man is stabbed to death with a pitchfork.
When DCI Guillermo Downes arrives he finds he knows the victim.
An innocent victim?
A decade earlier, Downes made a promise to the families of two missing girls that he'd find their daughters - and the dead man was a suspect in their disappearance.
Perhaps he can finally make good on his promise.
A secret unearthed
But DCI Downes - an Argentinian who fled his homeland - knows that old secrets are always reluctantly surrendered. And the darker they are, the more tightly the guilty cling to them . . .
