I had doubts how this series was gonna turn out because I've gotten tired from the shadowhunters' world in TMI. But Cassandra clearly has surprised me with this captivating prequel.

Despite the similarities between the two series, TID is certainly more hooking to me. The Victorian era settings captured my heart from the very first page and the characters are much more realistic (and a lot more attractive as I feel, yes yes). I especially love the Victorian details for the time period is so fascinating with all the dresses, carriages, and the compelling way they speak. I cannot help but get attached to all of them right away. The plot is alternately thrilling and I must admit I did not see most of the twists coming.

The series are packed with romance, betrayals, and a lot of actions that held my breath. While it is *a tiny bit* annoying to see every single character living in the Institute falling in love with one another, the characters are indeed engaging. There are ones that I love so much such as Will Herondale. The bond between him and Jem Carstairs thoroughly move my heart. "Shipping them" would be too abrupt a thing to say. I'd rather say I appreciate their platonic relationship for being so heartbreaking yet powerful. I believe I will never read another perfect love triangle like this. (view spoiler) The ending was perfect, though bittersweet and I'm pretty sure everyone will be happy with it. (and the epilogue seems to take place after the events of City of Heavenly Fire are resolved!)

Additionally, this series was flawlessly written with many beautiful books references. The detailed description of the characters' appearances, sceneries and surroundings all make me understand better about not only the shadowhunters' world but also Victorian London.

The Infernal Devices is definitely one of my favourite series and the most pleasant read so far this year. I would highly recommend it to anyone (if you think you can handle the heartbreak).

P.S. And the covers are oh-so-beautiful!
