Both in a literal and figurative sense, things fall apart in Chinua Achebes novel as it explores life in pre-colonial Igbo land, what is modern day Nigeria, and the effects of colonialism and christianity has on the local populace. Not biasing colonisation as good or bad, the novel explores the humanity of the people who it is affected by and challenges that stereotype that Africa was full of uncivilised hunter gatherers prior to colonial times.
