In early 2006 the Austrian European Union presidency will host a large summit on European Union-Latin American relations. Austria and Latin America in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is an extensive volume that, for the very first time, offers a broad overview from the Austrian perspective. Beginning with the diplomatic relations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the contributions focus on exile, culture, film, and literature studies. Migration is examined along very different patterns, looking at the Nazi period compared to the decades after 1945. Scientific relations are described as well as solidarity movements and cooperation regarding Chile and Nicaragua. The volume also contains abstracts in German and Spanish.
