In recent years, there has been an increasing trend in population moving towards urban regions and large cities. This has led to the emergence of mega cities around the globe. These mega cities consist of millions of inhabitants and require intelligent solutions to manage the cities. It is envisioned that the future cities around the world will be smart cities. Plenty of efforts have been done to improve the quality of inhabitants by integrating different technologies in their day-to-day life style. These improvements include advancement in public facilities like water systems, transportation systems, and electricity system. In smart cities, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will play a vital role for providing services in urban environments. These services include real time monitoring and reaction in time through wireless sensor and actuator networks. Smart Grids (SGs), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Internet of Things (IoT), Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) will be the building blocks of future smart cities.
