The Ultimates is larger then life, extravagant, operatic superheroes as we've always liked to see them.

A team of the world best superheroes (a cast including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Nick Fury... and then Giant Man and the Wasp) are thrown together by the American government to help them deal with superhuman threats. Sounds cool right? It actually is. It really is.

Also taken into account in this book is the idea that Superheroes are people too (this idea isn't exactly new or original but it's soooo nice to see when this book might have just been a big action sequence). The fact that we see these big, name super heroes portrayed as people rather then action figures just gives this book a lot of heart. This is good. I like heart.

Honestly, this was one of the first comic books I ever read and I loved it. It really changed how I thought about comics. And even though I've read a lot more now and know it's definitely not a masterpiece... it's still alot of fun with stunningly detailed art, awesome action and even a little emotion to get you through the night. Every time I read this book I smile. It's like a GOOD action movie. And that's not a bad thing.



Also, I should mention, just for stupid, geeky, obsessive, compulsive reasons: It's a reboot of an old comic series called 'The Avengers', which they're making a movie, which will be released in 2012 starring Robert Downey Junior, Samuel L Jackson and other great people. So, this might be a nice one to read just as prep for that.
