In 2008, J.K. Rowling delivered a deeply affecting commencement speech at Harvard University. Now published for the first time in book form, Very Good Lives offers J.K. Rowling's words of wisdom for anyone at a turning point in life, asking the profound and provocative questions: How can we embrace failure? And how can we use our imagination to better both ourselves and others?

Drawing from stories of her own post-graduate years, the world-famous author addresses some of life's most important issues with acuity and emotional force.

This book was such a quick and inspiring read, filled with simple yet beautiful illustrations

In her speech, J.K. Rowling talked about the importance of using your imagination, and that failure isn't a bad thing, and that you can learn some of life's most important lessons by failing at something.

Pros: No one can deny that J.K. Rowling is full of inspiration and words of wisdom. If you read this book, there is a very good chance you will take something positive away from it, even if you don't realise at the time. It's a book you can read if you just need a pick-me-up and some famous Rowling words of wisdom. The illustrations in this book are also beautiful, even though they are very simple and monochrome - they just add something special to the book and speech.

Cons: It's really hard to think that this book has faults, as it's her speech - it must have been good in order for it to even be considered good enough to be published. This is definitely one of those books that has a particular audience - people who love Rowling and her work, and people who can appreciate the wisdom someone has to offer.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to others. Whether you are a fan of J.K. Rowling, or just appreciate the words of wisdom that others have to offer, you will love this book, and definitely take something away from it when you finish. It's the type of book that you can read as often as you need.
