El 22 de septiembre de 1938, en medio de las encarnizadas luchas sobre el Ebro, con la vana ilusion de obtener como contrapartida la retirada de los contingentes italianos y alemanes, el Gobierno de la Republica comunico la decision de retirar del frente todos los voluntarios internacionales y pidio la creacion de una comision para controlar la efectiva retirada de todos los combatientes extranjeros.

Con este acto se claudicaba la epopeya de los voluntarios internacionales y el nacimiento de otro de los mas grandes y extraordinarios mitos del siglo XX. Y aunque hoy en dia la mayoria de los protagonistas de estos eventos han ya desaparecido, la aventura de "los mejores hombres en el mundo" continua despertando el interes de los especialistas y de los apasionados de la historia. Aqui se propone una contribucion actualizada de la historia militar de estas formaciones antifascistas.

Bruno Mugnai

Bruno Mugnai was born in Florence in 1962 and still lives there with Silvia. Active for years as a historical researcher and illustrator. He is the author of several titles published by the likes of the Historical Office of the Italian Army and Helion & Company. His books focus on the historical periods and geographical areas of his interest: the ancient Italian states, central and eastern Europe in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, and South America after the conquest. He is a member of 'La Sabretache', the Society for Military History Studies. As an illustrator, he collaborates with important Italian and foreign specialists, and with the Stibbert Museum of Florence. Bruno is a Rugby Football Union enthusiast, who still believes in an Italian Grand Slam in the Six Nations Tournament.
