Barnaby Joyce is one of Australia's most recognisable -and divisive- politicians of the modern era.

A former Leader of the Australian National Party, and the Deputy Prime Minister between 2016 and 2018, Joyce's world came crashing down around him in spectacular fashion this year when it was revealed that he was expecting a child with new partner Vikki Campion, a former member of his political staff.

Coming so quickly after the public stoush with actor Johnny Depp, the High Court ruling that he was a dual citizen and his stunning victory in the subsequent bi election in his NSW seat of New England, Joyce was rarely far from the front pages of national and international news media.

In Weatherboard and Iron Joyce not only provides a background and context to these calamitous series of events but also offers the reader an insight into the inner workings of politics and the media in this country.

Back to the backbench in life's ever changing game of snakes and ladders, this book outlines how his country upbringing informed and drove his political career...memoir, part political insider and deeply personal.

Really enjoyed this book, it gave a good insight to the life of a politician, and the difficulties representing us.I believe the press have a lot to answer for, and I am glad that Barnaby was able to survive.

A terrific read - as much for what I didn't know about the shades of life in regional Australia, as for its candour, humour, and unvarnished view of politics and Canberra through a bulls**t-free filter!

Barnaby has to be the only politician in that place that is willing to have a go! I found his book very easy to read and learnt a lot about the man and where he grew up. He obviously went into politics to fight for the people in the "weatherboard and iron" and it is clear in the book that he hasn't lost that fight. The book outlines numerous political fights that Barnaby has had which I found the most interesting because often these tussles go on, and the public are never made aware of them. Barnaby is a true champion for people in the bush and no matter what you think about his private life at least he is bloody honest!
