When half-wolf shifter Frankie Newman receives an e-mail from a family member she didn't know existed, a secret is revealed: as a child, Frankie witnessed her father killing her mother...and then himself. Frankie was torn from her pack by her mother's human relatives, and the trauma was erased from her memory. Realizing that she's been lied to her entire life, she's never felt more alone. Until she catches the scent of an old friend--warmly familiar and intoxicating.

Trick Hardy, enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, can sense the rush of mutual attraction when he sees Frankie again. He knows immediately that she's his true mate. But he also knows that, given her fragile state, he needs to tread with care--no matter how fierce his surging desires.

As aroused as Frankie is by Trick's darkly dominant air and simmering desire, her priority right now is her past--not her future, no matter how tempting. But as more secrets emerge and Frankie's life is threatened, Trick must do everything he can to keep her close and safe. After all, it's their destiny.

Suzanne Wright

Suzanne Wright can't remember a time when she wasn't creating characters and telling their tales. Even as a child in England, she loved writing poems, plays, and stories.

As an adult, Wright is the author of From Rags, Shiver, the Deep in Your Veins novels, the Dark in You series, and the Phoenix Pack series.

Echoes of Fire is the fourth novel in her Mercury Pack series. Wright, who lives in Liverpool with her husband and two children, freely admits that she hates housecleaning and can't cook . . . but always shares chocolate.

Frankie grew up with a lie. Now Trick and his pack are shining the light on her family’s past and in the process he’s staking a claim. When villains start coming out of the wood work from every direction, she finds a safe place with him and the Phoenix pack even as her mind slowly struggles to piece the missing pieces of her parent’s murder together.

I absolutely loved how Trick knew immediately that Frankie was his true mate. His original plans for that moment and time have to be revised however as she has issues to deal with. I loved him even more for his eternal patience with her as she works through them. He was a great hero with a sense of humor, strong alpha tendencies to keep her safe, and sexy talk that could curl your toes.

Frankie was not a tough bada$$ heroine as I was expecting. Instead, she was sweet and cute, a bit fragile but at the core of her was an inner strength that was a perfect complement to Trick. I loved her quirky irritation with proverbs and the way everyone around her was confounded by attitude toward them. Her heart was all about family and hers had hurt her deeply and I wanted there to be a solution so she could “have her cake and eat it too”.

The ending is an explosion of action and suspense. So much happens at one time that I refused to look away from the page even for a moment. The resolution of her memory loss was well developed and I believed it for what it was.

This was a great shifter, mystery, suspense thriller. Yep. All of that. And I loved every moment of it!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Montlake. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
