The 188 appellations used to name the one God of the Hebrew people in their Holy Scriptures (called the Tanakh) are investigated here. Rabbinic Judaism describes seven names which are so holy that, once written should not be erased. They are: YHWH (Pronounced Yahweh), and six others which can be categorized as titles. El, Eloah, Elohim, Shaddai, Ehyeh, and Tsevaot. Other names are considered mere epithets or titles reflecting different aspects of God.
