On August 13, 1964 thirteen men involved in a string of U.S. Post Office break ins entered pleas of innocent in a Brooklyn Federal courtroom. The thefts amounted to $592,000 in money orders from the Keyport, New Jersey Post Office. Altogether, more than $1 million was stolen from seven New Jersey post office branches. On January 12, 1964 a record $77,000 in stamps was looted from the Fairview, New Jersey Post Office.
