Even before passing through St. John's, Rogers felt a pang of regret on the train, and he wondered why he was going. A sentimental journey did not appear to be in his plans. But no good answer was given — at least none that a Board of Directors or a Shareholders' Meeting would have found satisfactory. The ancient vicar spoke to him in an odd manner.
