Cassius is missing! A journal of his last whereabouts, called The Consulate Archipelago, was sent to his former employer.

Now, Matthew Boxelder, a search and rescue volunteer, was hired to find out what happened to Cassius, using the journal as a guide.

Having read the journal is one thing; understanding the truth behind it is another, especially when the society is more advanced and more mysterious than Matthew thought. Even getting to the place that Cassius had written about was far stranger than he expected.

Yet Matthew arrived at the archipelago, an island chain that determines who is worthy of moving on to Leserson Island. There he finds out that he does not have enough money to continue on and must get more currency somehow.

What makes things even more difficult is that these islands are off the grid, with cell and internet service being sporadic at best.

Matthew starts to understand that this is a multi-layered society, with some people being sponsored by families and organizations to breeze through a variety of challenges and then travel to Leserson Island. Others, who have come from many parts of the world, have to work there until they can go on. And even within that context, some jobs are more prestigious than others.

Of course, the journal did not prepare Matthew for any of this. Nor did it prepare him for finding a published version of that same journal written in a foreign language.

And so, Matthew Boxelder found himself in an ever-widening mystery with a continual swirl of questions: what happened to Cassius? Why were there published copies of Cassius’ Journal and who created them? Why were so many people interested in going to Leserson Island? And would he find a way to get off this archipelago?
