Arnold Bennett

Arnold Bennett is very much worth reading. This will be contrary to what any of you who might have studied English Literature at university since the last war will have been told, so please park such prejudices.

Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame was born in 1859 and wrote fiction and fantasy for children.

He is most famous for The Wind in the Willows (1908), which is considered to be one of the greatest classics of children's literature.

He also wrote The Reluctant Dragon which was later adapted to a Disney movie.

Gertrude Stein

"America is my country," declared expatriate Gertrude Stein, "but Paris is my hometown." In addition to writing novels, stories, plays, and poems, Stein conducted a Parisian salon that was frequented by an international array of avant-garde artists and authors.

Eleanor H. Porter

Eleanor H. Porter was an American novelist from New Hampshire, born in 1868.

Although trained as a singer, she later turned to writing stories for children and romance and adventure novels for adults.

Her most famous novel is Pollyanna, written in 1913. She wrote 15 novels and many short stories during her career. Porter died in 1920.

Anthony Hope

Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins was an English novelist, best remembered for his adventure novels "The Prisoner of Zenda" and its sequel, "Rupert of Hentzau".
