The songs are by Walther von der Vogelweide, Hildegard von Bingen, Wipo von Burgundy, Martin Luther, Michael Praetorius, Heinrich VIII and others, some are up to 1000 years old.

The melodies were simply prepared with numbers / symbols and a bar line, an example can be seen on the back cover of the book.
