This book is for mandolin / tenor banjo tuned GDAE (lowest to highest string.)
There are twenty Caribbean folksongs arranged for mandolin or tenor banjo tuned GDAE.
19 traditional Caribbean folksong plus one original song by the author Jacqueline Grant.
Each arrangement has the single line melody as, standard notation and has guitar tablature. And includes chord symbols.
Standard notation; so that the melody can be played by violin, flute, recorder
Chord symbols; so that ukulele, guitar, mandolin, accordion or other chord playing to instrument can accompany the melody.
This book assumes that you have the basic knowledge of how to play the mandolin or Irish tenor banjo and that you also know how to read tab and / or standard music notation, and chord boxes. if not there are many free 'how to ..' resources online.
Ideally, the way you would use this book would be to print out the music score of the song that you want to play. This way the notation will be nice and large for those of use with failing eyesight and at the same time two people could share the printout if the song is being played as a duet or as part of an ensemble.
Start by learning to play the melody. Listen to recordings if you are finding the rhythms challenging.
For each song, in a given key, there are two arrangements. One with the basic melody and one with ornamentation added to the melody.
