"Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes is often credited as one of the founding documents of Western literature. Published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, it is thought to be the world's first modern novel and has often been hailed as the greatest book ever written.

The story follows the adventures of a low-level nobleman in Spain who becomes obsessed with chivalric romances and tales of knights-errant; so much so, that he loses his mind and becomes convinced that he himself is a knight named Don Quixote de La Mancha and that he should seek adventure and the chance to prove himself worthy. Hiring a peasant worker named Sancho Panza to serve as his squire, Don Quixote embarks on a number of quests and wild adventures, often to the dismay, puzzlement and confusion of the people he encounters, some of whom indulge him, some mock and ridicule him and, in a few cases, a few attempt to cure him of his madness.

Massive in scope and meticulous in detail, "Don Quixote" is one of the most revered and admired books ever written. It has been adapted dozens of times for the stage and screen - most famously as the Broadway musical "Man of La Mancha" - and is presented here in its original and unabridged format.
