When sabotage threatens the US Air Force’s newest gunship, there’s only one woman to call.

An AC-130J “Ghostrider”—the latest variant of America’s most lethal aerial gunship—goes down hard in the Colorado Rockies. Except the flight data doesn’t match the airframe. Air-crash genius, and high-functioning autistic, Miranda Chase leads her NTSB team of sleuths in to investigate. But what they uncover reveals a far greater threat—sabotage.

If she can’t solve the crash in time, a new type of war will erupt. One far too close to home which threatens to shatter her team.

Buchman has been a favourite writer of mine for a number of years now, and yet I’m still amazed at the way he manages to skilfully interweave so many technical details and human interaction. If you’re like me, a bit nerdy, and enjoy picking up new information (yes, even in fiction) there’s plenty for you here, but the developing relationships that have continued to build since book one are by no means overlooked. Buchman has a way of making you care about his characters, and as this series grows, more of the supporting cast’s back-stories come to light, even as we see Miranda flourish more with her no longer ‘new’ team.

Even if you’re not that interested in the relationships, there are still new mysteries to be solved, with sufficient techie-stuff to grab the attention of a whole new audience. I am so glad that this series is continuing, and hope that Mr Buchman’s agile brain doesn’t run out of ideas for a long time yet. Roll on Book 5, please!
