Born into a loving family in northern Italy, Giovanna’s early life was happy and carefree. She was neither interested nor aware of Italy’s political machinations. All that mattered was family, friends, and her social life; everything in that world looked perfect.

Then, through her teenage eyes, we see ordinary Italians’ struggle under Mussolini’s oppressive rule as he led them into the chaos and destruction of war to feed his own megalomania and ambition of becoming a great and revered leader of a new Roman empire.
