Lynn Gray Ross

Lynn Gray Ross lives in Scotland on the Isle of Arran, where she established the Silverbirch Spinning and Weaving Workshop in 1981 to teach traditional textile crafts.

In addition to teaching adults in the UK, US and Europe, she has developed award-winning projects with local schools to integrate traditional skills into the school curriculum. Lynn learned to weave at HV Skola in Stockholm and her work is exhibited and collected internationally.

She has produced woven art for several high-profile commissions, including a community tapestry for the 1995 United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing. By documenting her experience and her own weaving journey in her book, Hand Weaving: The Basics, she offers a starting point for learning the basic skills and applying them in education and community development.
