Magic! Betrayal! Revenge! Sounds like a YA fantasy novel, right? If only Shakespeare wasn’t so Shakespeare!

It’s not that Shakespeare is a bad writer--he’s obviously one of the greatest; the problem is his plays were written hundreds of years ago and if you don’t understand the context, the plays can be really confusing.

If you are struggling to get through The Tempest or if you just want a bit more help, then this book is for you!

Inside you will find summaries of each scene, overview of themes and characters, and even a modern version of the play (right next to the original text, so you can read it together)!

If The Tempest sounds like a fascinating read...you just wish it were written today (and not hundreds of years ago), then read on!

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, in 1564. The date of his birth is unknown but is celebrated on 23 April, which happens to be St George's Day, and the day in 1616 on which Shakespeare died.

Aged eighteen, he married Anne Hathaway. They had three children. Around 1585 William joined an acting troupe on tour in Stratford from London, and thereafter spent much of his life in the capital. By 1595 he had written five of his history plays, six comedies and his first tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. In all, he wrote thirty-seven plays and much poetry, and earned enormous fame in his own lifetime in prelude to his immortality.
