Memories from Norway Book 4: This picture book, one of 5 about cruise along the Norwegian coastline. This book covers the coast of Nordland. The ship was heading to Bødø. The early part had the ship navigate through narrow (from the point of view of a landlubber) passages around Landegode and close to the Bjørnøy Lighthouse. The mountains of Landegode were particularly impressive, being near the sea’s edge. The impressive lighthouse of Landegode sat off the shore. We then reached the vicinity of the Lofoten Islands: a chain of them run parallel to the coast. The ship docked at Stamsund and then onto Svolvær: both quaint villages, rather than large towns. There was a side trip by the ship to the very impressive Trolfjord involving a “U-turn” by the ship. Although the sky was really clear it was very late and we could appreciate the “Land of the Midnight Sun”. The photography day ended as we retraced our track back to the main coast. The next day we reached Finnsnes: another stop. After this we sailed the stunning Gisundet Strait - helped by blue sky and some scattered clouds. The book ends with our short shore leave in Tromsø. The book provides some insight into what could be seen on such a typical trip. Each photograph has an adjoining page with a brief explanation. It is meant to show what an average person could see on such a cruise: good weather and bad! As one of the world’s natural wonders, it is easy to get a huge range of photographs of the land, the islands and some of the birds. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. This book has 99 still photographs as well as a brief page of description for each. The original photographs (taken by the author, an amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit.
