But their experiences as plus ones with other dates—including Paul's evening with a Tantric practitioner, and Evan’s night with someone who possesses a macabre collection of ex-lover memorabilia—leave them unfulfilled and slightly bitter toward romance.

As the summer heat intensifies, however, so does their attraction. Yet somehow, they never manage to secure that elusive first date with each other.
