After getting to grips with her vampire powers last summer in Whitby, 18-year old soucouyant Gabby is settling into university life. She's determined to forget all about the two boys she met over the summer - Alok, the moody blood demon she shares incredible chemistry with, and sweet Ethan, who turned himself into a vampire to win her heart then disappeared.

But Gabby soon finds herself called back to Whitby by her vampire friends. A dangerous coven of witches has kidnapped one of the Suckers and they need her help getting him back. The heat between Gabby and Alok is as strong as ever as they work together to concoct a plan to infiltrate the Coven. But when Ethan turns up, and finds his way back into her heart, Gabby's loyalties are tested.

Things come to a head during the annual Halloween festivities. When the coven captures Gabby and drains her of her powers, Gabby realises that being a vampire is now central to her whole identity. She would do anything to get her powers back - even if it means hurting the ones she loves. The Sucker must become a Slayer . . .
