For fans of the offbeat sensibilities and anti-social tendencies of Joy Williams’ disenchanted teen girl characters; Kelly Link’s magical and supernatural elements; Denis Johnson’s explorations of dark subject matter—but feminist. Similarities with the humour of Kristen Arnett’s Mostly Dead Things and the genre-busting of Amber Sparks’ And I Do Not Forgive You.

Will also appeal to readers interested in fiction that addresses contemporary issues: inner-city gentrification and widening income gap, queer identities, homophobia, addiction, mental health, sex work, poverty.

Linked short stories enact central themes of the search for community and connection and lend the collection a novelistic coherence.

Dunnion has published six previous books and been a Lambda finalist. A queer punk performance artist and heavy metal bassist, she has worked as a housing advocate and a food security activist in marginalized communities and has developed a wider readership in punk and LGBTQ communities.
