This book is meant to be a real time, practical guide to leadership coaching. If you are brand new leader or an experienced leader, this book presents an opportunity to lead yourself and followers through coaching questions related to 13 leadership principles. Much has been written about what leaders should do and why they should do it. Less has been written to give leaders real time, practical resources for real leadership scenarios. Many times, employees promote to management positions because they are incredible task masters. Often, there is little to no leadership training. As a result, new managers rely on practices that are familiar – task completion, and they leave off what is not familiar – developing themselves as leaders and developing their followers. It can take months or years for leaders to learn through their mistakes. We can do better. I'm not suggesting that following the coaching principles in this book will keep you from making any mistakes. What I am suggesting is that when you follow the coaching principles in this book, you will make fewer mistakes with followers and shorten your leadership learning curve. This is true not only for new leaders but also for seasoned leaders who need a fresh approach. Employees today expect to be engaged, involved, and valued. Following the coaching principles in this book puts employees at the center of your leadership practice.
