Summer had just begun, and the four friends-Max, Sam, Javi, and Jennifer-were restless. School was out, the days stretched on forever, and they needed a place to call their own. A place where they could have adventures.

Max, the leader of their small group, squinted against the sun, his wild brown hair sticking up in all directions. "We need to find a spot. Somewhere no one else goes."

They were sitting on the curb at the end of their street, their legs dangling as they stared out at the familiar houses and yards. Their neighborhood was nice, but predictable. They had ridden their bikes up and down the same roads, played the same games in the park, and now they wanted something new. Something bigger.

Javi, ever the thrill-seeker, was bouncing on the balls of his feet, unable to sit still. "I heard there's an old construction site past the creek," he said, twirling his bike around in the dust. His voice held a hint of mischief, the kind that always got them into the best adventures. "Nobody goes there anymore."

Sam frowned, adjusting his glasses nervously. He was always the careful one. "Isn't that dangerous? They were supposed to build houses there, right? What if there's... I don't know, leftover stuff? Rusty nails? Broken glass?"

Max grinned, nudging Sam with his elbow. "That's what makes it an adventure! Come on, Sam. Where's your sense of fun?"
