The life of Jamie Raeburn revolves around two women, his first real love, Kate Maxwell and the woman he marries, Lucie Kent, but both women harbour secrets that cast Jamie's life into a vortex of violence. Jamie Raeburn is no saint but he has a conscience and an innate sense of right and wrong. He also has an impetuous nature that gets him into trouble. The Janus Complex is set in late 1960's Britain and, in particular, Glasgow and it paints a picture of troubled times. The Americans have a Nuclear Submarine Naval Base at Holy Loch on Scotland's River Clyde, the Irish Republican Army is growing in strength and "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland are almost at hand, and Organised Crime is growing throughout the country. All of these play a part in Jamie's journey from ordinary man to extraordinary killer. The action starts in Glasgow, once a dangerous city, and the story takes the reader back to those times. As Jamie tells Kate - "In this city even the good guys have a little bad in them" - but as the story unfolds the reader is left wondering if he is one of those "good guys" or something else entirely.
