The Time Machine by British author H.G. Wellsis a book of literary fiction first published in 1895 in the United Kingdom. The science fiction classic servs to illustrate the concept of time travel. The work is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle or device to travel purposely and selectively forward or backward through time. The term "time machine," coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle or device.

"Clearly," the Time Traveller proceeded, "any real body must have extension in four directions: it must have Length, Breadth, Thickness, and-Duration. But through a natural infirmity of the flesh, which I will explain to you in a moment, we incline to overlook this fact.
