Absolute Black

Darkness creates hundreds of black images we cannot control. They slither out from under the bed, melt through a closet door, and peer through a window. Fear! A thousand needles stab our belly and race up our chest and upper arms. For some, total black causes a phenomenon of uncontrollable rapid movement of our eyes searching for light. Black causes fear to swiftly dodge right and left, seeking protection.

April 1, 1957, Danny Cain left the offices of Cain and Able Investigations. He and his wife, Ruth Able, have been successfully operating the business. His assignment was to seek a missing client’s friend. While his drive to Saint Louis, MO, is uneventful, his arrival in the Saint Louis area was not welcoming.

A tip about the woman he is seeking leads Danny to a vacant warehouse north of the city, where things turn deadly.

Surviving a warehouse trap and a severe gash to the back of his head, Danny gains the help of a Saint Louis County Police officer and the two encounter events intended to kill, or at least slow any searchers. With no way to communicate with his offices or police headquarters, Danny and his temporary police partner face a deadly game of cat and mouse beneath the City of Saint Louis, MO.

Plagued by somebody who wants them gone, Ruth and Danny have their offices fire bombed, home burned to the ground and near miss shots fired at them and their staff members. Throughout, they continue crime fighting and investigating prospective employees for government contractors.

Crime in Saint Louis in 1957 still includes organized criminal enterprises headquartered in Chicago. There is no lack of needed investigations for murder and crimes of every ilk. Is the person with whom you are speaking connected to the mob? And who is seeking to kill Danny and Ruth?
