Donovan is an alumnus of The University of Auckland (Bachelor of Education: Huarahi Maori Specialisation) and Te Wananga o Aotearoa (Te Panekiretanga o te Reo). He is also a licensed interpreter and translator of the Maori language (Maori Language Commission).
