The Sunday Times bestseller - Robinson Crusoe on Mars, a survival story for the 21st Century.

I'm stranded on Mars. I have no way to communicate with Earth.

I'm in a Habitat designed to last 31 days.
If the Oxygenator breaks down, I'll suffocate.
If the Water Reclaimer breaks down, I'll die of thirst.
If the Hab breaches, I'll just kind of explode.
If none of those things happen, I'll eventually run out of food and starve to death.

So yeah. I'm screwed.

Andy Weir

Andy Weir has always been fascinated by space travel and, like most kids growing up, wanted to be an astronaut. At the age of fifteen he was hired as a programmer for a national laboratory and worked as a software engineer before channelling his creativity into writing fiction.

His book The Martian has gone on to become a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller and a 2014 Richard and Judy Book Club pick, winning multiple international awards.

The Martian is now also a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon.

I loved this book. It had everything I wanted in it: humor, action, suspense, adventure. It was a great read.

There are some out there that considered it far-fetched and wondered why the character was "always" of good spirits when he should have been depressed, scared, angry, etc - but I didn't understand those views at all. I mean would you really let yourself succumb to the fact that there was no hope for you at all and just give up? Or would you want to live (what might be) your last days of your life and have adventures, keep your fighting spirit and your humour in tact? I would like to think I would be exactly like Mark Watney, he was an inspiration because he never gave up no matter what the circumstances, but in all honesty I couldn't say I would be. But you never know what you would do, or how you would behave if you were told or believed you only had a certain amount of time to live.

Mark Watney was funny. My favourite part was when he was told to hold his tongue when writing to NASA because the whole world was watching and his response just made me crack up. It was a typical Mark Watney response. You get to know him, as the good guy he is: the sense of humour he has. His "voice" never changes and it gives you the best chance of getting to know him and how he thinks.

A Great Spacey Adventure novel!!

When a storm forces the third manned mission to Mars to evacuate just days after arriving, one man is killed in a freak accident. Or rather, he isn't.
And so begins the harrowing, often funny, but always dire story of what will possibly be the first man to die on Mars - or will he?
A stellar debut, now destined to be a Ridley Scott film (and we couldn't be more excited!)
