A History of American Wheeled Combat Vehicles
Hardback
Publication Date: 30/09/2002
This detailed and lavishly illustrated volume traces the development of American armoured cars from 1898 to today. The American military first experimented with the prototype of an armoured car in 1898. In World War I such vehicles proved their worth but it wasn't until 1941 that the American Army began to really promote the development of this most versatile and rugged type of vehicle. Armoured cars were employed in almost every theatre of the war and were supplied to most of America's allies. Post-war armoured cars continued to provide an important support role but were marginalised during the Cold War, when heavy-armour was emphasised, although, recently, the vehicles have been back in favour. R. P. Hunnicutt presents an exceptional study of these important and useful vehicles, and the full range of variants, and his detailed account acts as an essential guide to a key range of vehicles serving in the American armed forces.
