My Shadow is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story that touches on the subjects of gender identity, self acceptance, equality and diversity.

Inspired by the author’s own little boy, ‘Shadow’s’ main character likes princesses, fairies and things ‘not for boys’...he soon learns (through the support of his dad) that everyone has a shadow that they sometimes feel they need to hide. This is an important book for a new generation of children (and adults alike) which exemplifies the concepts of unconditional love, respect and positive parenting.

This colourfully illustrated children’s book tackles contemporary ideas of gender in a way that avoids virtue signalling or going beyond what a young child wants to know. Using the colour of one’s shadow as an analogy for the masculine-feminine personality and interest stereotypes this book just lets kids know it’s ok if different people are different. It’s ok if a boy or a girl has interests and personality attributes that don’t fit the stereotypes. Highly recommended if your child is being teased - or is doing some teasing. There is no “gay agenda” in this book at all. My understanding is that the author is a heterosexual cis man and father to a young boy who likes princess costumes... thus this book.
