After reading Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe and being very impressed by his book I decided to buy the version for the younger generation. I gave a couple of copies to a Daughter and Daughter-in -law, who are parents of some of my grandchildren but also who teach at Primary school level. The other copy I read myself and will hand it to my other Daughter for a reference book for my other grandchildren.

When I read the adult version of Bruce Pascoe's "Dark Emu", I was angry; angry that as a child I had been told an inaccurate story of the stone age hunters and gatherers that were the Australian Aboriginal people. Now, in a book for young people, we have the story of the Aboriginal people who farmed the land, built long lasting structures, stored food and harvested inland waterways with elaborate fish traps. With this book our children can learn of those lives and the huge lack of understanding and appreciation of Europeans who came and settled in Australia. I hope there are class sets in every primary and high school in the land. Every Australian child needs this book so as to grow up with more knowledge and understanding than my generation.

A magnificent book. Should be compulsory reading for all Australian school children.
